Next Sunday morning, over 50,000 runners will gather to run in one of the most iconic marathon races in the United States. I thought it would be fun in preparation for this year’s New York City Marathon to share some of the cool sites and buildings that runners will see as they complete the 26.2 miles around New York. There is so much to see while running through the streets of New York regardless if you have lived here your whole life or are just visiting New York for the marathon, so don’t forget to look around you.

Roosevelt Island Tram StationRoosevelt Island Tram Station
Built-in 1976 The Roosevelt Tram spans the east river and connects Manhattan to Roosevelt Island in about 3 minutes. You might recognize the tram from the movie Spider-Man where the Green Goblin throws Mary Jane Watson off the Queensboro Bridge.
Guggenheim MuseumGuggenheim Museum
At mile 24, the Guggenheim is one of the most recognizable sites in all of New York. The cylindrical building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright was conceived as a “temple of the spirit.” It hosts some of the world’s most beautiful modern art.
Metropolitan Museum of ArtMetropolitan Museum of Art
Home to one of the best art collections in the world, the MET is one of the largest museums in the world and located on Manhattan’s museum mile. At nearly 2 million square feet, the building is roughly ¼ mile long. As you run past the museum, look at the modern glass sides and the back of the museum.

Right as you round the final turn, two iconic New York buildings are on the east side and south sides of the street. If you look up, you can see the penthouse that sold for 54 million dollars. This 12,000 square foot apartment boasts seven bedrooms and even a full recording studio. Near FAO Schwarz, the Apple Store, and Central Park, it is in the perfect location.
The Plaza Hotel & Residences
The Plaza Hotel has been a New York landmark since 1907. When it was built, rooms went for $2.50 cents a night. Times have changed, but the location and prestige of the hotel haven’t. Now the Plaza is also known for its high-end luxury condominiums that can go anywhere from $1.75-$59 million dollars.
