Easy Fixes to Upgrade Your Dated Bathroom

Bathroom

Bathroom

Bathrooms can get tired in no time, especially if you live in a one-bath home. Bath renovations tend to be incredibly stressful, plus you have to stay in a hotel or with a friend for the duration of the remodel.

No worries if you’re a New York apartment owner with only a single bath. Depending on the condition of the space, you might be able to upgrade a dated bathroom with these seven easy fixes and not need to spend a small fortune for a week or more hotel stay.

Over time, caulk can get discolored from dirt and mildew, so fresh caulking can do wonders for the aesthetics of your bath. Caulk is also one of the least expensive tweaks you can do to your shower and sink area. You shouldn’t need to hire a pro if this is the only fix you need. Head to Home Depot and pick up the closest color to what you currently have and a caulk gun, and you should be good to go.

Dig deep

If your apartment is prewar and the bath hasn’t been renovated in years, you probably need a regrout. You might be able to get away with a good cleaning or bleaching, but chances are, the existing grout will need to get carved out and new grout installed. Although it’s not expensive or difficult, I don’t recommend trying to tackle a regrout project yourself. Companies like the Grout Medic can come in and knock it out in a few hours. After they finish, you’ll feel like you have a brand new bath.

A fresh coat or two in the bath will give the room an overall new and clean feeling. If your tile and fixtures are in good condition, paint could be all the room needs.

Refinish the tub

Prewar apartments usually have cast iron tubs with a porcelain finish. The porcelain can start to look dingy after many years, but a facelift can make it look new. Hire a pro to get the job done in two or three hours.

Change the light fixture.

An old, out-of-style light fixture can date your bath. Shop for a newer, more modern piece that can give your room some style.

Replace the mirror

A new mirror can brighten the wall above your sink. If you have additional storage and don’t’ need a medicine cabinet for personal items, consider a frameless mirror for a sleeker look. Don’t feel that you have to go with a rectangular shape. Round, oval, or square can prove more interesting if it suits your wall space. If you’re short on storage, update your medicine cabinet and purchase one from Robern, an upscale manufacturer available at Gracious Home.

Fresh towels, a luxe shower curtain, modern art, and a pretty soap dispenser are a few options to add color and panache to any bath. Please don’t skip the final touches, which will make your bath shine, giving it an even more updated look.
