WHY THIS BUILDING MATTERS
Explore The Apthorp, an Upper West Side condominium arranged around a courtyard. Read ELIKA’s profile of its prewar architecture and ownership.
The Apthorp, a historic landmark on the Upper West Side, is a testament to New York City’s architectural grandeur. Constructed in 1908 by William Waldorf Astor and designed by Clinton & Russell, it exudes timeless elegance.
Planning the numbers? You can compare owning with renting using ELIKA’s NYC Buy vs. Rent calculator, then model the longer-term ownership numbers with the True Carry Cost calculator.
With its Renaissance Revival style and grand courtyard entrance, The Apthorp offers old-world grandeur alongside modern luxury. Roughly 163 residences range from spacious one-bedrooms to sprawling penthouses.
Because it is a condominium rather than a co-operative — rare for a prewar building of this stature — purchase approval is a waiver process rather than a board interview.

NYC PUBLIC RECORDS
Explore city facts and recorded deed amounts. These records are a research starting point—not a valuation, title report, or substitute for due diligence.
Why the numbers differ: 163 profile residences vs. 151 residential units on the tax lot. ELIKA’s building-profile figures can come from architectural, offering-plan or building source material. City records use tax-lot definitions and may reflect different completion dates, floor counts, unit combinations or filing conventions. Confirm current offering documents and building records for a purchase.
